This “look” expresses what, precisely? Its exercise: its regularity, its particular kind of constancy … the ground no longer masks the person to which it lent the alibi of a history, of a fiction, of both a distant sense and a role. It seems that this is what the portrait continually repeats: the fact that there is no longer any attested or organized sense but, above all, no longer any delegation of sense....
