Hoping for gentleness requires strength; occasionally we lose hope. We don’t know what the lack of gentleness causes: perhaps words trampled; bodies mistreated; sad passions; charred emotions. In order to ignore this void we compensate by fabricating satisfactions. Today what we call “depression” is one of the major ways we deny our need for gentleness. The lack of gentleness is endemic.
