In this chapter the interview with Sandra M. Gilbert via phone was transcribed by the author. Sandra M. Gilbert is the co-author of The Madwoman in the Attic. Together with Susan Gubar, they edited Shakespeare's Sisters (Indiana University Press, 1979) and The Norton Anthology of Literature by Women (Norton, 1985). She initially presented her essay “Piacere Conoscerla” at the 1989 Italian American Historical Association Conference. She is Distinguished Professor of English Emerita at the University of California, Davis.
