As the author waits for news of his father, information about the atrocities of the revolutionaries continue to drift into the camp. Meanwhile, the British have enlisted the help of those capable of working in the camp unloading trucks and other basic volunteer duties. As the members of the camp run out of supplies to barter, one woman produces a gold bar that she had been saving and uses it to purchase necessities for the entire camp. After receiving news from his father, the author, his brother, and his mother travel via ship and train and are finally reunited as a whole family.
