The utilization of visual metaphors or mirroring in the reading process may potentially cloud the association of readers with the fictional nature of the text in which they are engaged, thereby luring them into readership genre, condition, and experience entrapment. In this chapter, the author heavily relies on German literature's rich definition and depiction of the “novella.” The text refers to the signals and meanings that Gerhart Johann Robert Hauptmann, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, and Thomas Mann had intended to convey through their highly acclaimed work with Bahnwärter Thiel, Reitergeschichte, and Der Tod in Venedig, respectively. The chapter also challenges the reader-response theory by criticizing the renewed and improved version of one's self or identity as the genuine outcome of reading.
