Between 1921 and 1924, generalized arterial sclerosis began the work that culminated in Herbert's death on May 26, 1924. He was 65 years old. The Victor Herbert legacy fell on his daughter, Ella Victoria. His wife Theresa was in a state of shock and followed Herbert in death two months later.
