Teilhard and the Future of Humanity

Thomas M. King, S.J.

Fordham University Press

This chapter discusses the influence of World War I on Pierre Teilhard de Chardin's views on the human future and God. It states that Teilhard de Chardin came to have an intensified sense of God and the human future during his troubled situation after being drafted by the French army. He says that amidst the chaos, he found peace and exaltation in the superhuman atmosphere in which the soul had again been acclimatized, and that during this time he felt elevated to the very frontier of the World and closer to God.
