The focus of this final chapter is to explore the far-reaching effects of Google on our books and our languages. It looks at the different resistances to Google’s domination from publishers and national libraries, including the attempts to set up competing European digital libraries and search engines. It also looks at the fraught question of copyright and fair use and the limits of Google Translate in a genuinely multilingual approach to culture.
