The Queer Turn in Feminism

Anne Emmanuelle Berger

This chapter addresses the vexing issue of the consanguine relationship of Western feminism with capitalism. Without either commanding or decrying this relationship, the author shows its long lasting political and cultural effects on current feminist and postfeminist struggles and discourses. To that end, she focuses on two areas of intense debate and interest within feminist and postfeminist circles: the controversy over prostitution and the interest in fetishistic fantasy and sexual practices.
