Toward an Ecology of Transfiguration: Orthodox Christian Perspectives on Environment, Nature, and Creation

John Chryssavgis and Bruce V. Foltz

Abstract

Can Orthodox Christianity offer unique spiritual resources especially suited to the environmental concerns of today? This book makes the case that yes, it can. This book helps answer a worldly question: why has Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch and spiritual leader of Orthodox Christians worldwide, been such a standout figure among religious leaders in his call for environmental care? This book boasts some of the most important voices within contemporary Orthodox thought both in North America and in Europe. The conclusions it presents offer a rich display of Orthodox thinking.

Keywords: Orthodox Christianity, environmental concerns, Bartholomew, environmental care, Orthodox thought
