This chapter discusses exceptionalism as a charge against Jewish law in recent political theology, in particular the work of Giorgio Agamben. Despite Agamben's characterization of Jewish law as exceptionalist, this chapter maintains that Agamben's own logic of the messianic ‘as not’ discussed in his work, The Time that Remains displays a logic of exceptionalism within Agamben's own thinking and represents a strain of exceptionalism within Christian theology predicated upon a misunderstanding of the structure and logic of sovereignty.
