This chapter focuses on the trials endured by those imprisoned in the Lampersari camp and the deplorable conditions they lived in. The author tells the story of how many in the camp often resorted to smuggling, burning illegal fires, or illegally scavenging wood simply to make ends meet. In addition to this, the author also relates the stories of many who fell ill and the grim prognosis they faced.
