The practice of reading represents both a science and an art. Reading relates to one's mental, educational, social, cultural, and ethical stimulation by virtue of his or her memory, experience, as well as personal convictions and/or impressionability. Although reading may well be characterized by information sharing and knowledge management, absolute comprehension of the objective discipline and subjective process of reading understandably remains an elusive and complex task. In this chapter, the author introduces the theoretical underpinnings of reading and challenges the contemporary views on its practical applications. In this light, the text highlights the value of reading for thrills, reading for art, and reading for wisdom on one hand as it emphasizes the qualitative and quantitative limitations in the analysis of reading on the other.
